You do not need to redecorate for autumn. A few pumpkins, warmer textiles and natural accents can change the whole feel of a room.
Decorating for fall does not mean packing away everything you own. Most of the effect comes from small additions layered on top of the furniture and accessories you already love.
1. Start at the entryway
The entry sets the tone for the whole house. Keep the furniture that works, then add one seasonal print, a textured pillow and a soft throw. Tuck a few small pumpkins into a wreath on a lower shelf.

2. Refresh a console table
A wooden dough bowl filled with pumpkins and leaves makes an easy focal point. Glass hurricanes filled with pinecones or acorns add natural texture, and a pair of candles brings in warm light.
3. Try muted colors
Fall does not have to mean bright orange. Cream pumpkins, dried branches, linen and soft browns create a quieter look that lasts well past Halloween.

4. Mix patterns carefully
Plaids, checks and small florals can live together when they share one or two colors. Vary the scale of each pattern so they do not compete.
5. Work around your artwork
Instead of replacing art, pick out one color from a favorite painting and repeat it in pillows or a vase of stems.
6. Make small DIY updates
A coat of paint on a side table or new knobs on a dresser can make the room feel freshly styled without a big spend.
7. Build a simple centerpiece
A long tray, three pumpkins of different heights and a few clipped branches make a centerpiece that takes ten minutes.
8. Add small sources of light
Lamps, candles and battery-powered string lights make shorter evenings feel cozy.
9. Give the kitchen a seasonal touch
A bowl of apples, a jar of cinnamon sticks or a fresh dish towel is enough to nod to the season.
10. Layer the table
Start with a neutral runner, add plates in warm tones and finish with napkins tied with twine or a sprig of dried wheat.
